Overview:

This workshop will introduce mental health professionals to cognitive behavioral techniques that can be used in a classroom or office setting. Strategies that address children who are exhibiting anxiety related issues and aggression will be discussed. Ways to adapt traditional cognitive behavioral strategies to working with younger children will be shared. In addition, actual forms and materials that can be used in a school or office setting will be distributed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Apply cognitive behavioral theory to working with school age children.
  • Explain RE & CBT approaches that can be delivered in a classroom or office setting.
  • Modify cognitive behavioral strategies so that they meet the developmental needs of children.

Schedule:

130 – 2:00pm: Introduction to cognitive behavioral therapy. Applying cognitive behavioral theory to working with children.

2:00 – 2:30pm: RE & CBT approaches that can be delivered in a private practice or school psychologist’s office.

3:00 – 3:15pm:  Break

3:15 – 3:45pm: RE & CBT approaches that can be delivered in a classroom setting.

3:45 – 4:15pm: Discussing evidenced based treatment such as “Coping Cat” and “TALKING BACK TO OCD” that utilize CBT strategies.

4:15 – 4:30pm: Questions and Evaluations
