Overview:

Social anxiety, generalized anxiety, and various forms of phobias are a few examples of disorders that include unhealthy anxiety as a core symptom and source of functional impairment. Anxiety disorders are the most common form of psychological disorders in the United States and motivate many people to seek psychotherapy. Fortunately, many highly effective, evidence-based approaches are available to practitioners. This half-day workshop will focus on how anxiety disorders develop and how evidence-based approaches can be utilized in the treatment of anxiety. Rational Emotive and Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (RE&CBT) theory, research, and techniques will be reviewed and discussed. Participants will learn how to utilize cognitive, emotive, and behavioral techniques to address a range of anxiety-related problems.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will learn to explain etiological factors in the development of anxiety and anxiety disorders.

Participants will learn to describe evidence-based interventions and refer to relevant research that supports these interventions.

Participants will learn to integrate an REBT framework within the cognitive- behavioral approach toward anxiety management.

Participants will be taught specific cognitive, emotive, and behavioral techniques to manage anxiety as it presents in various disorders.

Schedule:

1:30 – 3:00 pm: Review of diagnostic considerations for various anxiety disorders.
Summary of RE&CBT theory and research for anxiety disorders.

3:00 – 3:15 pm: Break

3:15 – 4:15 pm: Cognitive, emotive, and behavioral interventions for anxiety.

4:15 – 4:30 pm: Question & Answer and evaluations.
