This workshop will focus on REBT/CBT and its valuable contribution to the work on unconditional acceptance of the self and others, which are so important for mental and emotional health and a sense of wellbeing and happiness. Simple but effective techniques will be covered to help individuals move away from negative self-rating and condemnation to unconditionally accepting the self and others to become more resistant to depression, anxiety, and anger. Attendees will have the chance to practice these fun techniques within the encouraging and supportive environment in the workshop.

Learning objectives:

1. Know the general philosophical theories of the self and self-other relationships
2. Understand the unique contribution of REBT to theories of the self and self-other relationship
3. Understand the basic A-B-C model of REBT with an emphasis on the B-C connection
4. Know the types of irrational/unhelpful beliefs, including self and other rating
5. Understand the difference between rating the self and rating one’s performance within a role and the advantages of the latter
6. Understand the advantages of unconditional self acceptance over self-esteem
7. Understand and practice some interventions for increasing unconditional self and other acceptance within a psychotherapeutic setting

3:00 – 3:15 Break
3:15 – 4:20 REBT interventions for increasing self and other acceptance
4:20 – 4:30 Evaluations
