by Raymond DiGiuseppe, Ph.D.
“Coming to Terms with Your Parents” teaches the listener how to develop a relationship with their parents as an adult. Dr. DiGiuseppe first addresses the common problems with the parent-child relationship from the perspective of language. Parents always refer to their children, even an adult offspring, as children. The listeners learn that getting in touch with their inner child only teaches awareness, and does not help them get over previous difficulties. In fact, this allows a person to rehearse irrational beliefs and relive previous emotional upsets. The disputation of irrational beliefs (demands) and holding on to the negative emotions are addressed. In addition, Dr. DiGiuseppe teaches the listener how to combat resentment and guilt and “the downward spiral” of negative interactions.
